Our Vision and Mission

Neighbors helping neighbors in need through local parish conferences.

In the spirit of love and justice, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Santa Clara County provides person-to-person services of time, talent and resources to help our neighbors in need.

There are families and individuals throughout Santa Clara County who right now are in desperate need of our love and support. Many of them feel no one is listening and that is why the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is here. We listen as well as respond to people in crisis. We offer them hope when they feel all but forgotten by society, and we make certain all who contact us are helped in every way possible.

Together we can make a vast difference for them. Please partner with us to share resources with the men, women, and children in our community.

Saint Lucy Conference SVDP partners with Grocery Outlet

For the last two years Chevonne and Darren Johst, owners of the Downtown San Jose Grocery Outlet located at 272 E. Santa Clara Street, San Jose, have invited the Saint Lucy Conference of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul to partner with them in the Grocery Outlet Independence from Hunger Food Drive during the month of July.

This year our Vincentians including Linda Kelly, Eileen Kilfoil, Eva Alcaraz, Trinity Portrum, Mary McPeek and her children, Gemma Luna, Lawrence Cabral and Carol Jerger spent Monday and Wednesday afternoons at the store.  This year we received about $2,500 in cash donations from the store customers and were given the 279 pre-packed food bags that the store sold to their customers for $5 each.

All funds from this effort will be used to provide food for the people who visit the Saint Lucy Outreach Office.  The organization distributes about 100 food bags per month. Each bag of food has staples and canned goods that will feed a family of four for three or four days.

SVdP's Most Holy Trinity Conference Pilots Homeless Shelter Program

St. Vincent de Paul of Santa Clara County’s Most Holy Trinity Conference saw a need to shelter the homeless so they acted on it. With funds from generous donors they launched The Most Holy Trinity Homeless Shelter Program on February 7th. The Shelter Program is able to house up to 15 guests for a week and provides them with clothing, food and other essential items to make their stay as comfortable as possible. The goal is to run the shelter for 3 non-consecutive weeks. “We initially started with 2 guests and by the 3rd week we had 12 guests and a family of four. We felt a kinship for each of our guests.  I continue to stay in contact with them.” Said John Estrada, a member of SVdP’s Most Holy Trinity Conference. Providing shelter is especially important during these inclement months and the desire is to offer this program again during the winter months.

St. Vincent de Paul holds Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Santa Clara County volunteers and Council employees got together at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Los Gatos for an appreciation pot-luck luncheon. Hosted by John Thielmann, President of the St. Mary SVdP Conference, it was an afternoon of bonding and celebrating our accomplishments in helping those in need throughout Santa Clara County. "We work hard as a team raising funds and providing support for our neighbors in need and this is our opportunity to bond as a group and share stories and best practices that help us meet the challenges that we face on a daily basis", said Helene Stewart, President of SVdP of Santa Clara County.  Founded in 1946, The Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Santa Clara County is a 501(c)3 non-profit and through the generosity of local donors, corporations and foundations has been providing support for the needy and impoverished in Santa Clara County for over 70-years.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there was a way to help a needy family stay together in their home AND make your neighbors happy? Well, SVdP has just the program. You can donate that old auto to SVdP and we will turn it into funds that will help a needy family stay together, in their home. It’s a true win-win-win. You get rid of that old car at no cost to you (and you can write it off on your taxes), we in turn collect the car and use it to raise money to help the needy, and your neighbors are happy because they no longer have to look at it! AND, we’ll take it with or without dents! Just call us at 1-800-322-8284 or click the image above.
